This dramatic member of the giant silk moth family, which is found throughout the state, has an average wingspan of five to six inches. One of the moth’s most distinguishing features is the large eyespots on its two hindwings. The eyespots are also where it gets its name – from the Greek myth of the Cyclops named Polyphemus.
